A
woman has
to have
sales resistance
whether
she's a
homemaker
or clerk
of a new
city, Mrs.
Elvira Ward
concluded
yesterday.
Mrs. Ward
is both,
being homemaker
for a family
that includes
one son
and serving
full-time
also as
clerk for
industry,
which was
incorporated
just a week
ago.
She served
her first
full day
in office
yesterday.
Sharing
space with
the Rowland
Area County
Water District
at 18033
Valley Blvd.
She said
her first
day was
"very
interesting"
and indicated
the major
part of
the yesterday
was spent
in interviewing
salesmen.
As for Official
City business,
Mrs. ward
was not
certain
what office
hours will
be maintained,
what progress
has been
made in
hiring a
city manager
or very
little else
about functioning's
of her of
her city.
"Those
things are
being handled
through
City Atty.
Glen Watson's
office."
she said
smiling,
and added
"We
just haven't
got our
feet on
the ground
yet."
Actually,
Industry
was moving
forward
swiftly
in the process
of cityhood
after being
delayed
from certifying
a successful
election
last December
by court
litigation.
County supervisors
are scheduled
today to
sign contracts
approving
zoning,
police and
other necessary
services
will be
specified
at an adjourned
meeting
of the city
council
this week.
The city
remains
in the county
fire protection
district.
Mrs. Ward's
salary will
also be
officially
set by the
council
Thursday,
meeting
at 8 p.m.
at Utility
